No big team, no investors — just me, and these days, my mum too.

I moved to the UK from Latvia when I was 9. I barely spoke English, everything felt unfamiliar, and I was trying to find my place in a completely new country. Looking back, that experience taught me how to adapt, figure things out as I went, and keep going even when things felt uncertain. As it turns out, that's exactly what building a business takes.

Before Sultry, I spent over four years as a makeup artist. I started with wispy strip lashes, and I realised that a lot of lashes felt plasticky, uncomfortable, too long, or just didn't suit my clients' eye shape.

So I decided to create something better myself. No business background, no funding — just my savings and a determination not to settle for "good enough."

Two years into the business, I noticed another problem. Women loved the look of salon lash extensions, but not the cost, upkeep, or hours spent at appointments. There wasn't really anything in between. That's when we launched our at-home DIY lashes.

The thing I'm proudest of isn't the lashes themselves. It's the fact that my mum now works alongside me — packing orders, helping with admin, and being part of the business every day. Going from doing this completely alone to building something with her is something I'll always be grateful for.

Every lash we create still comes from that same promise: comfortable bands, lightweight materials, and styles designed to flatter different eye shapes — because I know what it's like to wear lashes that just don't feel right.
